What Are the Types of Laser Vision Correction Available?

Which Procedure is the Best for Me?

This decision can only be made after having a comprehensive Eye exam and having a discussion with your doctor. These days, most patients select Intra-LASIK because of the fast results, precision and lack of discomfort. Patients with Dry eyes, Thin Corneas or Anterior Basement Membrane disease may do best with either PRK or LASEK.

SMILE Vision Correction

A thin lenticule and small incision are created inside the intact cornea. The lenticule (small contact like disk) is removed correcting vision.

Intra-LASIK (iLASIK)

This is the most advanced type of LASIK available. At LaserCare Eye Center, we only offer Intra-LASIK and no longer offer traditional LASIK.

PRK

PRK was the first type of Laser Vision Correction available in the U.S. With this procedure, the outer layer of the cornea is removed mechanically prior to sculpting the eye with the Excimer laser.

Traditional LASIK

In Traditional LASIK, a blade called a Microkeratome was used to cut a thin flap of corneal tissue expose the middle layer of the cornea.

LASEK

This is sometimes referred to as "no cut" LASIK.

Process for Intra-LASIK surgery

Step 1 LASIK evaluation

Our surgical coordinator will provide information about LASIK surgery, pricing and options such as Custom treatments.

Step 2 LASIK Pre-op

Special measurements of the eye are made. A comprehensive eye exam is performed to evaluate the health of the eyes.

Step 3 Day before surgery

You will start using a prescription antibiotic eyedrop.

Step 4 The Day of Surgery

The patient arrives at the laser suite in our Irving office. After registration, eyedrops are instilled and the patient prepared in the surgical area.

Step 5 Post-op

The vision is usually blurry for the first few hours after the surgeon.

Every year since 2014, LaserCare Eye Center Doctors and/or Staff (past and present) do mission work in Haiti. LaserCare Eye Center has partnered with the Haiti Ministry of Highland Park United Methodist Church to help provide free Eye Surgery, free Eye care and free Glasses to the people of Haiti. We have committed to send a team of 2 people or more from our practice to help every year.
